  • Al Masah Capital Weekly Report: Mena markets generally cautious; buying picks up in Egypt and Saudi

    Oil prices ended last week in the USD51.5 - USD52 range resulting in MENA markets maintaining a cautious approach with the exception of Egypt and Saudi. UAE markets were mainly down with Dubai and Abu Dhabi showing weakness of -0.59% and -0.97% respectively coupled with subdued volumes. Saudi Arabia went up by 1.11% as it finally reacted to oil staying above $50 but investors are still being cautious about the country’s economic situation with fears of further austerity measures and doubts about OPEC’s next meeting reaching an agreement.

  • Alexandria University’s Faculty of Nursing endorses ICDL Health Information Systems Usage Certification

    The Faculty of Nursing of Alexandria University has agreed to endorse and teach the Health Information Systems Usage Certification programs by ICDL, the governing body and certification authority of the ICDL certificate programs developed in Egypt, to its staff as well as graduate and postgraduate students interns. The announcement was made during an official meeting held in Alexandria recently, 2015 between Prof. Dr. Maha Adel Salem, Dean of Alexandria University’s Faculty of Nursing, and Jamil Ezzo, Director General of ICDL Arabia. The Faculty of Nursing aims to empower its students and graduates with the latest information and communications technology (ICT) skills required in the health sector through the implementation of the new international program. The move complements today’s job market requirements, which does not only require proficiency in the common desktop applications but also across other skills like information security, online collaboration, project planning, social media, digital images, basic web design and use of information systems focused towards the health segment.

  • Brazil posts robust trade with Arab region as imports grow 27 percent & export share rises to 15.4 percent during first half of 2017

    The Arab-Brazil Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) Brazil has announced that Brazilian average daily exports to the Arab region continue to soar, reporting a robust performance during the first half of 2017. Brazil’s total export market share in the Arab region rose to 15.4 per cent during the first half of 2017, in comparison with the total export market share recorded in 2016. Main exports included sugar, iron ore, beef, sports hunting equipment, car engines and chassis, automobiles, soybeans, poultry, coffee beans, precious and semi-precious stones, and cast-iron pipes. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Algeria, Egypt, Oman and Bahrain were the largest importers of these goods.

    Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) has announced that Brazilian exports of machinery and construction products to Arab countries have increased significantly. According to recent statistics, Arab countries have purchased USD 226.31 million worth of machinery in 2015 compared to USD 211.43 million in 2014, registering a 7 per cent growth. The export of construction items, on the other hands, remains stable at USD 41.34 million in 2015. The growing volume of outbound trade demonstrates an increasing demand for Brazilian products in the Arab World, reflecting flourishing bilateral ties between the region and the South American country.
