• 3rd Community Safety Conference highlights importance of public-private partnerships in combating counterfeit goods trade

    Under the patronage of Lt. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai and Honorary President of the Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA), the Dhahi Khalfan Intellectual Property Center hosted its 3rd Community Safety Conference at the Dubai Police Officer Club on December 12, 2017. The event was held under the theme of ‘Combating Counterfeiting Through Standardization and Metrology’ in collaboration with Dubai Police and Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the international safety testing, certification and inspections company. The conference provided local and regional stakeholders and other high-profile participants with an effective platform to discuss systematic ways to fight counterfeiters and enhance community safety in the UAE and the wider region.

    Over the weekend the Middle East Arthritis Foundation (MEAF) conducted its public community event at the Shangri-La hotel, Dubai to mark World Arthritis Day 2018 (WAD). Four hundred patients and their families and carers gathered to participate in several activities including a fashion show, nutrition and pain management sessions as well as free bone density and hand scan tests, all designed to create greater awareness of the chronic disease, support those who suffer from arthritis, and encourage early diagnosis.

    Dimension Data, the official technology partner of the Tour de France, has auctioned all 22 of its fleet of Team Dimension Data Cervelo S5 bikes in an online auction and internal raffle that raised USD 89,090 for Team Dimension Data’s chosen charity Qhubeka. This equates to 487 bicycles that will be distributed in South Africa’s rural communities, helping to change the lives of schoolchildren in the region forever.

    The Emirates Environmental Group’s and the Department of Economic Development in Umm Al-Quwain organized a ‘Clean Up UAE’ Campaign in Umm Al-Quwain Fishing Village where 6,000 tons of waste were collected over a period of 5 days. This year’s drive was aligned according to the UAE Government’s move declaring 2017 as the ‘Year of Giving.’
