Premier Motors, the Official Automotive Partner of the ADWPJJC 2019, hailed the work of the UAEJJF in raising the profile of Jiu-Jitsu and transforming Abu Dhabi into the home of the sport.

“We are pleased to continue our association with the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2019. The tireless efforts of the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation have positioned the city and the UAE among the world’s leading nations in this sport. The ADWPJJC is a shining example of this success, attracting participation from leading international Jiu Jitsu athletes,” said Saed Hijazi Salameh, Assistant General Manager – Sales, Jaguar Land Rover for Premier Motors.

“Jiu Jitsu teaches its practitioners to be humble, respect others, and to build up one’s strengths – principles that were close to the heart of the founding father of the UAE – Sheikh Zayed. In the UAE’s ‘Year of Tolerance’, these principles resonate more closely with all the people from around the world, who call the UAE their home.”

Following the overwhelming success of the UAEJJF’s hosting of the landmark 10th edition of the ADWPJJC in 2018, Fahad Al Shamsi, CEO of the UAEJJF, believes the multi-tournament event is well-positioned to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s elite standing in international Jiu-Jitsu and the sport’s growing global appeal.

“It is not an accident that Abu Dhabi is now regarded as the international home of Jiu-Jitsu. The sport is embedded in the social fabric and public consciousness of the UAE nation, while the inherent values the sport teaches – discipline, courage, friendship, patience, endurance, leadership and team spirit – are evident everywhere from the gymnasiums in our schools, to international competition mats graced by an increasingly strong and commanding contingent of male and female Emirati professionals.”

Global athletes stand to win big

The winners of the Para Jiu-Jitsu competition will share a total prize fund of USD 42,000, while winners in the Youth categories for both boys and girls will take home a share of USD 11,200.

The winners of the ADWPJJC Men’s categories will split USD 273,000 and the winning women will share USD 100,000. Meanwhile the Masters champions will share USD 63,000.

In closing the press conference, the UAEJJF thanked partners for their continued support and commitment, stressing that “these partnerships reflect the cooperation between organisations across different sectors in enhancing Jiu-Jitsu across the UAE and contributing to the success of the championship.”

Championship organisers also added that the event will be shown live on Abu Dhabi Sports.

From the mat to the masses

In line with the championship’s objective to engage with new audiences, the official launch also marked the beginning of the UAEJJF’s community outreach campaign, featuring three activations. The Master Class tour will visit schools, colleges, universities, gyms and clubs educating a diverse range of audiences in the art of Jiu-Jitsu including fitness and discipline.

An interactive activation will tour malls and public locations and bring a gamification element to the championship build-up with visitors given the opportunity to take pictures in Jiu-Jitsu poses. The third activation will engage international embassies in Abu Dhabi to reinforce the global reach of the sport and the widespread support for Abu Dhabi as the home of Jiu-Jitsu.

Azzam on the Move

The community outreach campaign will be assisted by championship mascot, Azzam, who will join the activations, engaging with the UAE public and generating excitement amongst younger audiences. The community outreach campaign begins on Thursday at Abu Dhabi Courts to mark Emirati Child Day before moving on to the Special Olympics World Games at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) on 17 March.
