Winter at Tantora (December 19th – March 7th) has announced that golden-voiced tenor José Carreras will headline the festival’s Spanish Prestige weekend (9 – 11 January), bolstering the festival’s towering opera programme, which already includes the operatic pop quartet Il Divo (January 17th) and the legendary Andrea Bocelli (January 31st).
The festival also announced a double bill of musical acts for its Modern Legends weekend, with the disco-soul-funk legends Kool & the Gang, supported by Sister Sledge, headlining on February 27th ahead of much-anticipated performances by Lionel Richie and Craig David on February 28th.
José Carreras will perform some of his greatest hits during his appearance at the festival on January 10th as part of the Spanish Prestige week. One of the Three Tenors, Carreras is known for his performances in the operas of Verdi and Puccini. By the age of 28, he had sung the lead tenor in 24 different operas and has performed over 60 roles over the course of his storied career.
Kool & the Gang, one of defining voices of the disco-era with songs such as “Celebration” and “Cherish”, will be supported on stage by Sister Sledge, whose chartbusters "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family" created 40 years ago, remains popular to this day. In addition to these two ground-breaking acts, the festival will also welcome the soul and funk music of Jamiroquai and Nile Rodgers & CHIC (January 24th) as well as the Latin Pop beats of Enrique Iglesias supported by The Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes & Tonino Baliardo (February 21st).
Fans of classical music will also have much to cheer with one whole weekend (January 2nd – 4th) dedicated to Beethoven. One of the greatest composers of all time, the German maestro’s work will be feted with performances by Renaud Capuçon, Kit Armstrong, Edgar Moreau, Guillaume Chilemme, Adrien La Marca and the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. In addition to the magical notes of Beethoven, AlUla will also play host to the compositions of Omar Khairat (December 27th) and the genre-defying music of Yanni (February 7th). On Valentine’s Day, the festival will celebrate “A Love Legend from the Oasis of AlUla” - the enduring love story of Jamil and Buthayna, performed by Caracalla.
