The images of “Roncalli’s circus magic” caused quite a sensation last year when Circus Roncalli visited Swarovski Kristallwelten (Swarovski Crystal Worlds). And the audience was clearly enthralled by the artists’ acts. We wanted to rediscover this sense of excitement by continuing our collaboration this year. Due to the current circumstances and restrictions the length and extent of the festival has had to be adjusted. Given this exceptional situation, however, the artists of Roncalli’s founder Bernhard Paul are looking forward even more to working with Swarovski Crystal Worlds to delight all our visitors this year too. “Roncalli’s circus magic” runs from August 8 to September 6.
“Circus Roncalli’s first visit to Swarovski Crystal Worlds last year was a great success. Visitors of all ages, including our business partners and the media, were fascinated and delighted by the combination of circus magic and the sparkling setting of Swarovski Crystal Worlds,” says Carla Rumler, Cultural Director Swarovski and Curator of Swarovski Crystal Worlds.
“That is why we were determined to continue our collaboration with Roncalli and its event team from the outset. We are delighted that we are able to continue our shared story into this extraordinary summer, despite the current circumstances and restrictions – albeit in a smaller and shorter form,” explains Stefan Isser, Managing Director of D. Swarovski Tourism Services GmbH.
Bernhard Paul adds: “Roncalli and Swarovski are bound together by friendship. We want to enchant every visitor, even in these unusual times, with the poetry and nostalgia of Roncalli.”
The Giant himself is particularly charmed to have a thoroughly eligible “companion” at his side this year: a stilt-walker dressed as a white-robed giantess will spread the magic of crystal throughout the Giant’s expansive garden all summer. Visitors will enjoy a colorful potpourri of artistry, poetry, and artworks, with children’s workshops for the younger ones and a mini circus tent as a visual highlight right at the entrance to our crystalline world.
The attractions: a vintage car, circus trailers, and interactive shows
When Swarovski Crystal Worlds is transformed into a circus world for the summer of 2020, there will be lots to see all around the garden of the Giant: balloons and circus banners will spread the message far and wide: “Circus Roncalli is here again.” Historic circus trailers, a vintage car, and interactive shows from the turn of the twentieth century will complete the scene. Visitors may encounter Circus Theater Roncalli anywhere in the garden – with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the magic of the circus.
Artists and circus performers: magicians, a giantess, and Roncalli’s “walking acts”
A poetic clown will meet guests on arrival, charming them with his art and skills, and bringing a grin or a chuckle to the face of every visitor, from small to tall. And speaking of tall: the “white giantess” in the garden of Swarovski Crystal Worlds seems both wonderful and mysterious – this fairy-tale being is incredibly tall and yet delightfully gentle. She not only looks enchanting, she also spreads crystalline magic by giving away sparkling Swarovski crystals. A conjuror brings moments of wonder to the visitors at Swarovski Crystal Worlds: Trained at the Rotterdam university of circus arts (Codarts), he is a master of conjuring, juggling, acrobatics, and drama. He baffles the audience with magic, using real fire, ice, and original Swarovski crystals. The circus artist demonstrates his mastery of classic magic tricks with cards and balls, as well as modern magic with an iPad. And all over the garden of the Giant, visitors will encounter Roncalli’s “walking acts,” the artists and entertainers whose role is to create interactive fun at Swarovski Crystal Worlds this summer, daily from 10:00 to 19:00. To ensure our visitors can enjoy themselves safely, appropriate safety and hygiene measures will be in place.
