The Health Education Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah launched its fourth annual health and tourism campaign and the world’s first online health and tourism campaign on Wednesday after three successful years of achievement in enhancing active lifestyle as well as promoting touristic areas in the Emirate. The campaign will be running until 16th of September.

 Details about the campaign was announced during a press conference held at the SCFA, attended by H.E Iman Rashid Saif, Director of Health Education, Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Sharjah Government Media Bureau (the campaign's media partner), Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority and its sponsors; Sharjah foundation, the European Arab hospital, the bank of Sharjah and the golden balloon.

 Saif stated, the health and tourism campaign is one of the most important educational and awareness campaigns which was launched by the vision of Wife of his Highness Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, to raise health awareness among citizens and residents as well as highlighting the touristic areas in the Emirate.

This year’s campaign will be held under the theme “Lets walk” to enhance the culture of walking as the lack of activity increases the risk of serious and chronic illnesses by 30 % meanwhile walking regularly helps to decrease death rate by 50%.

 "For the first time this year, we have signed a partnership agreement with World Walking Corporation,"Saif added. Seven tourist sites including Heart of Sharjah, Central Market, Al Majaz, Al Qasba, Al Majaz Theater and Flag Island have been chosen as the best locations for lovers of walking.

Dr. Mohammed Asmi, CEO and Specialist interventional cardiology at the Euro Arabian Hospital stated:

Our sponsorship for the campaign “Let's Walk” comes from the responsibility we have committed to serve the UAE society through spreading health awareness among its members and encouraging everyone to adapt an active lifestyle such as walking regularly to maintain one’s physical and mental health, especially since the UAE has customized many unique facilities to practice this sport.

Dr. Asmi expressed his gratitude towards Deparment of Health Education of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah for their great efforts in serving the society.

Majid Hamad Al Suwaidi, Manager of Domestic promotions Department at Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority said:

he also said, we are honored to provide all the support for the “ Health and Tourism” campaign organized by the department of Health Education under the theme “Let's Walk”. This campaign contributes to spreading health awareness in tourist areas in the Emirate, and increase the level of health behaviours that should be applied and practiced in touristic area

 The campaign targets social media so visitors can learn more about it through the hashtags #HealthAndTourism and #LetsWalkSharjah. The accounts belonging to the campaign has a huge role in assisting people to get an idea about this month and September's activities that are taking place in various places in Sharjah such as Sharjah Ladies Club, Al Majaz Waterfront, Mega Mall, Sahara Center and etc. Last year’s campaign witnessed a significant interaction on social media, with more than 3 million hits by hundreds of thousands of followers inside and outside the UAE.  Demand of tourism sites in Sharjah has increased since then.

For this campaign to reach the highest level of success, Department of Health Education has initiated promotional models in 13 locations inside the Emirate and a number of awareness films will be broadcasted on Sharjah Media Channel.
