The Ministry of Environment and Water has announced that an estimated 400,000 cubic meters of rainwater, equivalent to 88 million gallons, was collected in the central area’s dam lakes after heavy rains, known as Al Rawayeh rains, last Monday afternoon, July 27 2015.

According to the recent statistics released by Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade and compiled by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Arab Nations exported USD 3.377 billion worth of products to Brazil during first half of 2015. The growing volume of export reflects thriving trading relations between the South American country and Arab region with both parties keen to explore more business opportunities.

The Ministry of Environment and Water is continuously strengthening its efforts to advance the country’s agriculture sector in line with its strategic objective of promoting food safety and sustainability of the local agricultural production. Cultivating crops, such as palm trees, that can withstand the country’s arid climate is among the Ministry’s long-standing initiatives to achieve its goals. At present, the UAE is considered as one of the leading countries in terms of palm cultivation as a result of the strong support of the country’s wise leaders including the late H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. To date, more than 40 million palms are available across the UAE.

In line with the efforts to achieve its vision and ensure a sustainable living environment, the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water will commence an educational awareness campaign titled ‘Illegal Trading of Ivory’ from August 2 to 13, 2015 at the Abu Dhabi International Airport. The drive will be organized in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Customs and the International Fund For Animal Welfare (IFAW). The campaign aims to educate the travelers about illegal trafficking of ivory and make them aware about the legal requirements of ivory trade.

The Ministry of Education recently honored a total of 257 of its retirees for their efforts and dedication to work. For the first time, the Ministry hosted a celebration at its headquarters in recognition of their loyalty and passion while still performing their duties. H.E. Fawzia Hassan Gharib, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Operations, and various officials from different departments attended the ceremony.
