UNESCO has named Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) and Chairman of the UNESCO Institute of Information Technologies in Education (IITE) Governing Board, as a Member of the Expert Committee of Digital Strategies for Higher Education in the Arab World. UNESCO has formed this committee to formulate digital strategies for higher education in the Arab World by developing a scientific plan to support the region’s quality of teaching and learning.

Gulf Extrusions (Member of Al Ghurair Group), a leading global manufacturer of extruded aluminium products, has announced that it is supplying aluminium for Dubai Autism Center’s AED 73-million building project in Al Garhoud as part of its strong support for the institution. The company will provide aluminium extrusions for the project’s façade solutions and other related works being done in the soon-to-open facility.

The UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS), has announced an initial commitment of $500,000 (US) to aid in response and recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake on April 25 in Nepal. The UPS Foundation will contribute a combination of cash and in-kind support to enable the provision of urgent relief supplies as well as potential on-the-ground logistics support for long-term recovery needs.

REACT, an international not-for-profit cooperative association fighting the trade in counterfeit goods, has named the Arabian Anti-Piracy Alliance (AAA) as its strategic partner in the GCC in the efforts to combat piracy and the proliferation of counterfeit products. The AAA was selected by REACT for its contributions and extreme dedication in curbing piracy in the Middle East region--implementing a comprehensive anti-piracy program that includes strategic activities like public awareness campaigns, aggressive lobbying and legal action against intellectual property rights violators.

Alfardan Group has announced a donation of QAR 300,000 to the Qatar Red Crescent Society to help the citizens of Yemen. Mr Wael Jamal, Head of Corporate HR, Alfardan Group handed the donation to Mr Saed Shaeen Al Kaabi, Head of Resource Mobilization, Qatar Red Crescent Society; in a private ceremony held recently at Alfardan Towers.
