Igenomix, a company that provides advanced services in the field of reproductive genetics, has stressed on the importance of Carrier Genetic Testing (CGT) in the Middle East region. The screening procedure can help soon-to-be and newly-married couples in reducing the risk of passing on genetic diseases, which are caused by abnormalities present in the human DNA. In line with this, Igenomix is encouraging the use of CGT as an important pre-component in planning a family as it can help determine the risk of having a child with a genetic disorder. Upon the completion of the screening procedure, individuals will be able to know if they carry one or more recessive genetic mutation.

Zulekha Healthcare Group launched today its ‘Screen and Survive’ campaign in its third edition in the honourable presence of His Excellency Dr. Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority. The campaign offers free screenings that are open to the public including residents and visitors from March 12th till April 30th 2018. The campaign aims to support the UAE’s national target of decreasing cancer fatalities by 18% by 2021.

Endometriosis is a painful disease that affects millions of women worldwide and quite a few in the Middle East too. It is estimated that 1 in 10 women is affected by endometriosis during reproductive years and approximately 30–50% of women with endometriosis will experience infertility. It is a condition in which tissue that normally grows inside the endometrial cavity grows outside it and can lead to severe pain during menstrual periods and chronic pain in the lower back and pelvis, often disabling. But that’s not all. It leads to infertility in a majority of cases. While a large part of the affected women are living with this medical condition – they only wake up to it when facing challenges in conception. It is then, that couples turn to IVF or reproductive medicine for treatment.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP), organized an event in celebration of World Tuberculosis Day, under the slogan ‘We need leaders to create a world free from Tuberculosis.’ The event was held to create awareness about the seriousness of Tuberculosis, to identify its symptoms and ways of transmission. It aimed to highlight the ministry's efforts in implementing the National Tuberculosis Control Program by providing free health care to all TB patients, right from diagnosing the disease, through treatment and follow-up, to full recovery. Awareness and education efforts are part of the ministry’s ongoing, integrated year-long plan.
