Ayesha Al Obeidli, a 9-year-old Emirati girl, has been crowned KidZania® Dubai’s 2018 Minichef at the grand finale held at the Dubai Ice Rink in The Dubai Mall.
The grand finale of the event witnessed intense competition as 18 semi-finalists chosen from earlier rounds, featuring 180 young talents aged 8 to 12 years, battled it out to make to the finals.
The six final contestants including Ayesha, Scarlett, Sophia, Yannick, Nyles and Zoha had 45 minutes to prepare dishes that were evaluated by a jury of experts in the final round.
Ayesha’s winning creation was her take on a chicken roulade with quinoa side, which won over the hearts of the judges for the final round, who included senior representatives of Al Islami Foods, SCAFA (Dubai’s School of Culinary and Finishing Arts) and Address Dubai Mall.
Open to kidZ aged between 8-12 years old with a passion for food, KidZania® Minichef aimed at teaching and assessing participants on various aspects such as kitchen organisation, food safety, creative plating and delicious flavours, and in turn, inspiring Dubai’s ‘young chefs’ to pursue their passion. The 100 contestants who qualified took part in interactive workshops as part of their preparation for the semi-finals.
Giving kidZ the chance to learn and show off their skills in the kitchen, the three winners received AED 10,000 in prizes, including a culinary scholarship to SCAFA and a two-night luxury family staycation at Address Dubai Mall, as well as passes to Reel Cinemas, Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, Dubai Ice Rink and VR Park.
KidZania® Dubai’s 2018 Minichef was held in partnership with SCAFA, Al Islami Foods, Reel Cinemas, Z Generation, Address Dubai Mall and Greenheart organic farm.
