Under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF) and Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), TBHF has mobilized USD 1 million to fulfil critical medical and psychological needs of children severely affected by the unfortunate events that hit the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem a few weeks ago.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), a subsidiary of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), issued today an urgent appeal for the allocation of  Zakat and Sadaqah contributions in support of the most vulnerable refugee and internally displaced families during the last ten days of Ramadan.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, today announced the appointment of popular TV personality Raya Abirached as a Regional Goodwill Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Abirached has been working as a High-Profile Supporter with UNHCR since 2017 and is a powerful voice and advocate for the forcibly displaced across the world.

The UNESCO Executive Board unanimously adopted the first UAE-led decision submitted to it entitled “A Framework for Culture and Art Education,” which was developed to enhance cooperation between culture and education.  In line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the draft decision submitted by the UAE calls for harnessing culture in education by expanding learning outcomes, capacities and skills for all through a broad spectrum of opportunities provided by culture,  including heritage and cultural and creative industries (CCI) in formal and non-formal education, lifelong learning, encompassing digital technology. The proposed Framework also intends to benefit different Member States according to their unique needs.

Edraak, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform in Arabic, launched in 2014 by the Queen Rania Foundation to transform the mechanism of access to education in the Arab World by providing unique and vital opportunities has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Strategy Directives, an EdTech consultancy and the founders of “Maharatkom” psychometric assessments for high school students, job seekers as well as midlevel and senior employees.

Dar Al Ber Society, one of the first charities established in the UAE, donated AED20 million to the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign aimed at providing food parcels for disadvantaged individuals and families across 20 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
